Genesis 24:3-4 (NKJV)
“and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
Marriage is anchored on more than love; there are other critical requirements for a successful marriage to happen and one of them is “commonality.” Your spouse can make or break you, depending on your commonality index. If she’s not from the same stock as you, the poor level of bonding will continually push you both back and away from each other, because of the fundamental differences in core values.
For Abraham, taking a wife for Isaac from among the daughters of the land was not an option. He understood his destiny. He understood the covenant. He understood the responsibility upon his lineage. The woman had to come from a stock that worshiped his God. Having a spouse who sees life as you do and possesses the same values as you do, could be one of your greatest assets in fulfilling your destiny.
Go to any length to ensure your spouse is from a common spiritual stock.
“Lord, thank You for giving me such a wonderful bride from the house of Israel. May we all patiently insist that we, and our children, only marry from the godly stock of God’s people. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
