FAITH AND THE UNTHINKABLE

Romans 4:19-20 (NKJV)

“And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead…and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God”

I don’t understand this man Abraham; I am actually awed by him. I don’t understand how he could still believe God despite the deadness of his own body and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. This is unthinkable; simply unimaginable. What was he believing God for if he knew his body was as good as dead and he knew his wife’s womb was dead? What was he expecting God to do and how did he think God would do it? I actually don’t understand what was going through his mind and his heart.

NLT says, “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” In the midst of the impossibility of the situation, his faith grew stronger. How can your faith grow stronger when everything looked more and more impossible? When God saw that Abraham did not waver or shake in faith, God was very pleased with him. Oh! That I may have the faith of Abraham, and rather than waver at my impossibilities, that I may grow stronger in believing God.

“Oh Lord, help my unbelief. Help me look beyond my circumstances to You, the God of impossibilities. You do the unimaginable and You expect me to believe You, despite the immediate scenarios around me. Lord, help me believe. Amen.”
