Romans 6:18-19 (NKJV)
“And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness…For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness…so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.”
No man is free. We are all slaves to someone or something. By nature of the old life, we were slaves to uncleanness and unrighteousness. We did not have to do anything; as slaves, we simply obeyed our master and he led us to produce ungodliness, unrighteousness and lawlessness. But now that we have been set free from slavery to sin, we can no longer serve our old master because we have a new master.
Verse 19 in NLT says, “Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.” Holiness is the result of slavery to righteous living. If I accept my new slave tag, and celebrate my new master, my human members will produce a God glorifying lifestyle. I am a slave of Jesus Christ. I am a slave of righteous living. I am a joyful slave. It is because I am a slave that I don’t have a right to decide what I will do anymore. My master has the final say and because I know Him whom I serve, I know His decision concerning me will always be for good and for His glory. So I have peace in my slavery.
“Lord, I am Your slave, Your slave of righteous living. I don’t want my way or my will because these are unreliable and epileptic. I am totally submitted to You my master, totally and happily so. Amen.”
