Romans 9:9 (NKJV)
“For this is the word of promise: ‘At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.’”
There is the word of promise and the time of promise. God had given His word of promise to Abraham, but the timing of God was very different from the expected timing of Abraham. When God says He will do something, He will surely do it, but we can’t be sure of when and how. That’s where our faith must stand firm, as we wait for God’s timing.
With Abraham and Sarah, we know that they made a mistake in producing Ishmael and later on, they had to send Ishmael and Hagar away because they realized their error. And God supported their action. Whatever we produce outside of God’s timing will be a bottleneck in our lives. Whatever we produce by our own strength and away from the promise of God, will cause us much trouble. The key is to lean on the promise of God and wait for God to move. When promise and timing intersect, God’s glory is revealed and His purpose accomplished. Waiting isn’t easy, but wait we must.
“Father, teach me to wait for You to fulfill Your promises for my life, my family, my nation and our world. I wait for You to do what only You can do, in Your time. In Jesus name. Amen.”
