Romans 12:2 (NLT)

“…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

There’s the old man and the new man. There are several things we know about the old man, and although we focus mostly on sin and the deeds of the flesh of the old nature, one crucial thing that separates the old man and the new man is in the ability to know God’s will. For the unregenerate man, it is not possible to know the mind of God. For the child of God whose mind is being renewed, he begins to “learn to know” the mind of God or the will of God. Knowing God’s will for our lives is not automatic, but it is a process that can become progressive, even as our minds continue to be renewed.

Concerning knowing the will of God, NKJV puts it this way; “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove…(the) will of God.” It does not say that you “will prove” but that you “may prove” the will of God. What this shows us is that knowing or proving the will of God is not a fixed fact but an endeavor or journey with God. It’s not an automatic but a result of seeking God, renewing our minds and waiting for Him to reveal His mind to us. May we grow in this process and may we reach such a point of personal mind renewal, that knowing His will becomes almost second nature to us. We need to keep growing and learning to know.

“Lord, I am Your child but I am many times in the dark concerning Your will. Take me further in the process of mind renewal that proving Your will becomes almost automatic for me. In Jesus name. Amen.”
