Matthew 27:59-60
“When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock…”
Jesus will receive whatever is given to Him with the right heart and with the right motive. We need to ensure that we are bringing the right things to Jesus in the right way; otherwise, our gifts may attract a curse on us. A clean heart and a right motive are essential in presenting our gifts to Jesus for He will not accept anything from us that we present in any other way.
When Joseph wanted to wrap the body of Jesus with a cloth, he chose a clean linen cloth. When he wanted to bury the body, he chose a brand-new tomb that had not been used before. Joseph’s actions displayed his heart. When we give to Jesus from the remnant of what we no longer consider as important, it speaks volumes of our attitude towards Him. When we give to Jesus those things that are not good or needed, it shows how we value Him. Our attitudes determine whether Jesus will receive our gifts or not. More important than giving, is giving with the right attitude.
“Lord, circumcise my heart such that my attitudes are new and clean. If my heart is correct, Lord, I know my gifts to You will be correct. Master, peel off the dross from my heart I plead. In Your name, I pray. Amen.”
