COMPETING HEIR

June 14, 2017

Genesis 21:10 (NKJV)

“Therefore she said to Abraham, ‘Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac.’”

From the quote above, Sarah’s request may have seemed very harsh, but it had suddenly dawned on her that there was a competitor to the heir God had given her. She knew the Covenant was with Isaac, and she assumed that everyone understood that, but once the other ‘heir’ began to scoff at her and Isaac, she knew it was time for separation.

We must be willing to take the painful decision to separate everything that competes with the Lordship of Jesus in our lives. You need to identify the things that scoff at your inheritance and deal decisively with them. Competing heirs do not need mercy. They are there for only one reason: to take the inheritance from you and if you don’t decide decisively, then another one may soon grab your place. In spiritual things, you cannot play with any competitor to your heirship.

“Lord, I refuse to accept any competition to my inheritance. Father, in the name of Jesus, I make war against the strange spiritual forces that seek to usurp the promise of God for my life and my lineage. I am dead to this world, and my only inheritance in Christ is not negotiable. Amen.”
