Genesis 39:12 (NKJV)
“that she caught him by his garment, saying, ‘Lie with me.’ But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.”
Learn to flee. Learn to run. Don’t be so self-confident that you don’t know when it is time to escape. The self-righteous man has a false understanding of his inner strength and does not adequately recognize the powers that can still break through into our lives through the weak gates of the flesh.
Joseph had been resisting the woman from afar, but when she became physically violent and insistent, he had to flee. He did not care that he left behind his garment. Joseph did not have time to assess, to analyze and to ponder on the implications of leaving behind his clothing. All he knew was that if he stayed back, he could defile himself and also break his trust by sleeping with his master’s wife. There was no time for discussions or meditations. He just needed to get out as fast as possible.
And this may be our best game plan when in a tight corner. Flee. Run away. Leave everything and get out of that situation. Don’t think it through. Don’t think of your reputation. Don’t assess the other implications. Just flee and refuse to compromise. This may just lead to your survival.
“Oh Father, may I never be so severely tested as Joseph was but if You choose to allow this type of testing to come my way, grant me the inner strength to learn how to run away, even if it looks shameful or humiliating to so do. In Jesus’ name, I plead with You. Amen.”
