Galatians 5:13 (NKJV)
‘For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.’
It is a misunderstanding to think that because we have been freed from the religious obligations of the law, therefore we are without law. There cannot be anything farther from the truth. Yes, we have been delivered from the law of the flesh; the laws that seek to make us live by the flesh and find justification by the flesh. But since we have left the law of the flesh, we are now under the law of the Spirit. There is no liberty in the law of the Spirit to act as I want to or live, as I like. If I live like this, then I am not free at all, but I am a slave of sin.
The liberty we have is the liberty to live in the fullness of God. I am free from the dictates of self but am not free from the Spirit of God. He that is free is now free to love and to serve. If I am not free to do this, then I am not free at all. Those who continue in sin even after finding faith in Jesus are not free at all. How I pray that I will live the true life of true freedom everyday, for the world to see what liberty really looks like.
‘Forgive me for the many ways I have not showed a true example of your liberty. Forgive me for the gaps that have always revealed the failures of my humanity even as I seek to walk the life of faith and liberty. Help me remain in the place of dependency and brokenness so that I never exalt myself or act in anyway contrary to love and service to mankind. This is my prayer today, in Jesus name. Amen’
