LYING IN SAFETY

September 28, 2016

Psalms 4:8 (NKJV)

‘I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.’

It has often been said that safety is not the absence of danger but the presence of the Lord, and this is very true indeed. The reason why I can lie down and sleep peacefully is not the absence of danger for every saint lives in the daily threat of danger. I can lie down and sleep despite Satan’s rage against me, for I know that it is the Lord who keeps me safe.

So David’s prayer was simple; that God would make him dwell in safety. David did not pray that God would remove the danger. God can make us safe in the midst of danger and it is to His glory that we are seen as living in safety in the midst of danger. So let’s stop seeking a danger free life; let’s pursue Him who is able to make us experience ‘unexplainable’ peace and rest, even as we walk through the heart of danger.

‘Lord, we are surrounded by lions and wolves and yet you send us in as sheep among wolves. It’s clear that you never intended for us to be able to protect ourselves but to trust you for our protection. Today Lord, I join David in praying that you keep me in safety and peace, in the midst of the violence and wickedness of our generation. This I pray in Jesus name.’
