Genesis 25:8-9 (NKJV)
We don’t usually have control over where, when and how we die, but we can pray and desire to die in a particular way. Abraham died well, and that’s one way we could wish to die.
He was “GATHERED TO HIS PEOPLE.” Abraham had a community. He belonged to an extended family; a large community of those who considered him a member of their group. Some called him father, others uncle; others grandpa, others master. All put together, these were his people, and they came out to bury him. Gathered to his people also meant, he joined the covenant people who had gone ahead of him. So he was not only was gathered by his immediate people, he was gathered to his ancestral people.
His “SONS BURIED HIM.” Although Ishmael had been sent away, he returned for his father’s burial. May our children bury us and may they stand side by side in the funeral procession, having no ill against one another. Ishmael didn’t show any animosity towards Isaac & that’s a good testimony to Abraham.
“O Lord, may I die well, full of years and gathered by my people, to the cloud of witnesses above who are my people. This I earnestly desire in Christ. Amen”
