FINDING REST IN PAIN

Genesis 26:34-35 (NKJV)

“When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.”

Despite his many blessings on the outside, there was a sore point on the inside. Despite the great successes on the outside, there was a point of failure on the inside. Despite his significant victories on the outside, there was a point of defeat on the inside. And this stole the joy of his heart. Esau- Isaac’s first son, was a real prodigal. Am sure he knew he shouldn’t marry the women of the land. Am sure he was taught the importance of maintaining the covenant of the fathers. But he couldn’t care less. He chose his way and shamed his family.

The best we can do is train our children. When they come of age, they will need to make their decisions by themselves. Sometimes, they will get it right; sometimes they won’t. And there isn’t a greater grief than when a beloved child makes decisions that you know are incorrect and contrary to God’s laws. But there isn’t much we can do about it.

Pray. Teach. Entrust them to God. But after that, find Rest because you can’t go beyond this point. Have faith in God’s power to arrest, to change and to retrieve the lost life. Let that give you peace.

“O God, help my children find You and walk with You all the days of their lives. We are teaching them, but we know time is coming that they will have to move on make their decisions. Help them O God in those days. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
