DEPENDENT SHEEP

August 4, 2017

Genesis 29:2 (NKJV)

“And he looked, and saw a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone was on the well’s mouth.”

The sheep were lying by the well, hoping and expecting to drink water but a large stone was placed over the well’s mouth. The sheep had no option but to wait and wait until someone strong enough would come and take off the stone and give them water. Such vulnerable sheep. Such dependent sheep.

And so we must be. Whatever the limitations on our path, we need to wait on Jesus who is able to help us. We can’t lift the stone ourselves. Even if by some miracle we could, we can’t draw water from the well ourselves. As Christ’s sheep, our faith and hope must lie squarely on Him who can both remove the obstacles on our path as well Him who is determined to give us the Living Water our hearts so earnestly thirst.

“Jesus, I am dependent on You. I don’t want to be strong without You. I confess that I cannot help myself except You give me a hand. Jesus, come to my rescue. I am waiting by the well. Amen.”
