THE TEST OF TRUST

October 7, 2017

Genesis 39:7-8 (NKJV)

“And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused…”

Trust will be tested. Once you have been handed a brief to manage and trust has been conferred on you, then by its very nature, trust must be challenged and the right to continue in that trust is dependent on your response to the challenge of trust. Some people have done well for a while, but once they started failing the challenge of trust, they quickly lost the brief of trust.

Joseph refused the seductive invitations of his master’s wife because he knew that would be a breach of trust. Though in the immediate, he would have gained some fleeting pleasures and maybe temporary promotions, these would eventually have led to his destruction.

Never only look at the immediate satisfactions from a breach of trust. Look at the future implications and the catastrophic loss that follows such a violation. For a trust to be trustworthy, it must be tested. For trust to continue, you have to pass the test of trust.

“Lord, I cannot afford to fail my tests. When these come my way, dear Lord, give inner strength to resist every invitation to violate the trust placed on me. I am weak, but You are strong, Lord. May Your power uphold me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
