Genesis 48:14 (NKJV)
“Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.”
Israel “guided his hands knowingly,” which means although he was near blind, he knew what he was doing. His hands were being guided not by human sight or human reasoning but by a divine motion which could not be understood or explained. Even Joseph was displeased and tried to correct the error whereby the younger was being lifted above the older, but Israel refused the correction because he was acting prophetically.
Many times, we can’t explain or understand God, but He is always right and working out His purposes in His ways. Since it pleased God to elevate Ephraim the younger above Manasseh, the older, who can question Him. All we must do is respect and accept His sovereignty as being the best of the best and hope to one day see the unfolding of His Master Plan even before our eyes.
Elevation comes from God, not by right. Remember He is sovereign; be satisfied in His choice on whom to elevate and when.
“Lord, I respect and submit to Your sovereignty. I accept that Your ways do not always make sense to human reasoning, but Your ways are always best. Teach me always to trust You, even when I don’t understand You. Amen.”
