Matthew 5:42 (NKJV)
“Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.”
We must be givers for our Father in heaven is a generous Giver. Give lavishly. Give abundantly. Give cheerfully. Just as God has been so generous to you and has given you so much, likewise give generously to all who ask of you. Of course, you need wisdom in giving to those who ask but may we not permit human wisdom to stifle the necessity of generosity.
I know some fraudulent men and women want to take advantage of generous hearts, but the Lord will need to tell me not to give for me not to give. If the Lord prompts me not to give to someone, then I won’t. But if the Lord does not prompt me not to give, then my first natural response must be to give. Be a giver. Be a generous heart. You have received so much from Him. Payback into society by loving and meeting the needs of the needy around you. And don’t give only to those who can pay back. Those who want to borrow, go ahead and lend them. To those who need assistance, go ahead and give to them. Don’t close your fist, but be liberally openhanded at all times.
“Jesus, how I so much want to be like You in every practical way. You were so generous and so liberal. You blessed and met the needs of the multitudes even when You knew their motives were questionable. That’s Godness not just goodness, and I want to be like You always. Fill my heart with this Your lavish virtue. In Your name, I pray. Amen.”
