Matthew 22:23
“The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,”
Jesus had barely finished with the Herodians before the Sadducees were on top of Him. They came to Jesus, “the same day.” He didn’t have time to take a break from the attack of the Herodians before the next challenge came. But He was ready. Jesus was constantly under bombardment, and because He was aware that this would be the case, He was always vigilant and prepared. Even when He took time off from physical ministry, He still lived in the consciousness that a fresh challenge was around the corner. For this reason, Jesus never let His guards down.
There’s no break as we journey through the hills and valleys of this pilgrimage. There are no real holidays from spiritual opposition and seductive deceptions. Don’t stop to celebrate and lose sight of the next round of distraction that’s around the corner. I may have won against the Herodians, but am I ready for the Sadducees? I need to be; you always need to be prepared, for the next wave is about to hit you.
“Father, I desire to overcome every wave of confrontation that comes my way, irrespective of how they come. Since this is also Your will for me, I plead with You to endow me with the grace to stay focused at all times, even as Jesus did. Amen.”
