Matthew 28:2, 4
“And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it…And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.”
The ministry and power of angels are amazing, and these heavenly beings need to be feared for they carry and display the might of the Almighty. These terrifying beings can appear in different forms, shapes, and sizes, but irrespective of how they look, they carry the backing of the Almighty. They descend for only one reason: to execute God’s mandate. They are messengers of the Most High and do His bidding with uttermost speed and dexterity.
And having rolled away the stone, the Angel sat on it for the guards to behold him, as though daring the guards to rise in conflict. Heaven had given him an instruction, and he was willing to crush anything or anyone who stood on his way. This fearless being knew that nothing created could stand against the awesome might he bore. Of course, the Roman soldiers knew they could not withstand the power of this heavenly being, and they trembled in their uniforms. A simple conclusion here is that Man in his natural state can never stand up to or confront the awesome might of Angels; who come to execute the purpose of God amongst men.
“In addition to the very presence of the Holy Spirit within me, my heart rejoices that You Oh Lord, have sent me these powerful beings to enforce Your purposes around me. I am covered on all sides. Amen.”
