QUESTIONING AND SOVEREIGNTY

Romans 9:20 (NKJV)

“But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, ‘Why have you made me like this?’”

No matter how friendly we think we are with God, we must be careful how we talk to Him, because He still is God Almighty despite His making Himself accessible to us through Christ. God is God and we need to be wary how we speak to Him and speak of Him. We need to always remember we are like the clay and He is the potter, and our entire being is because He made us who we are. There should always be some level of decorum and respect when communicating with the Almighty God, even if He is our Father.

As children, we can ask God questions, but we need to frame the questions correctly, and they should be questions borne out of faith, and not questions that challenge His sovereignty. If we challenge God’s sovereignty, then we have stepped outside the protective wall of faith, and we are no longer friends of God. “Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?” – Verse 21 (NKJV). God is God. He has total control of the clay, to make it into what He wants it to be. When we don’t understand, we can ask Him, but let’s never forget that He is God and He is sovereign, and we may not always get our feedback the way or the time we want.

“Lord, You’ve never shut me up for asking questions. You are my Father. I will keep asking but always in faith, in hope and in love. May I always be a vessel of honor and never dishonor. In Jesus name. Amen.”
