Romans 9:28 (NKJV)
“For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,
Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
This is the cry of my heart this morning. How my heart desires and aches for a rapid work of God upon the earth. The slow but progressive growth of the gospel is wonderful but we need a faster expansion of the gospel in the nations. If this is the work of God, then nothing is impossible with God. It does not diminish God to “cut it short in righteousness,” because He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all things belong to Him and in Him all things consist.
NLT says, “the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth quickly and with finality.” How I cry for the Lord to do this. The work of God cannot be moved and cannot be shaken. It’s a work of finality and permanence. God can quickly and conclusively do what He has determined to do on the earth, bringing about the final harvest and bringing judgement to all sin. This is the age that I hope He will do this speedy work. All creation is waiting for this time. All of the redeemed are waiting for this time. All of the heavenly beings and martyrs are waiting for this time. How we pray that in His sovereignty, He will make it a reality very quickly, and thus satisfy us all.
“Oh Lord, do Your quick work in righteousness. Bring in the final harvest and close this dispensation, by Your Power and through Your Church. We ache for this Lord. Do a speedy work I pray. In Jesus name. Amen.”
