Romans 11:8 (NLT)

“As the Scriptures say, ‘God has put them into a deep sleep. To this day he has shut their eyes so they do not see, and closed their ears so they do not hear.’”

Nothing can be worse than when God begins to work against you. When the Almighty feels that your time of grace is over, then you are in big trouble. If God chooses to close a door, nobody can open it and if God chooses to open a door, nobody can close it. The Almighty God cannot be moved or changed against His will. For this reason, if God chooses to put you into “deep sleep,” then who can wake you up? That’s the most terrible situation a man can ever find himself in.

After generations of wooing their hearts away from all their foreign gods, and after trying to help them see that salvation is by faith alone and not by works – and having failed, God decided to “shut their eyes and close their ears.” May we never get to that point that God starts to work against us. It is never a good situation if the Lord chooses to turn things against you, dismantling all your human sensitivities and abilities. We need to keep in step with Jesus to ensure that we are not coming across as perpetually disobedient and hardened people. May God never “put me into deep sleep,” in Jesus name. Amen.
