Romans 15:1-2 (NKJV)
“We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.”
It is a great assumption to think that you are strong, afterall, who is he who determines ones strength? To think you are strong is a great responsibility and it’s not something one should jump into conclusion about himself or herself. But if by the grace of God, you are at a place where you think you are stronger (or at least stronger than some others around you,) then that strength is given to you for only one reason: “to bear with the scruples of the weak.”
The weak will always have issues and scruples, and that’s why they are weak. If you say you are strong and you use your strength to please yourself, then you are not strong at all. One true measurement of strength is that the strong are able to carry the weaker. The strong are strong because they can forget themselves and serve others. The sign of strength is in the ability and commitment to please others, for the sake of their edification. NLT says, “We who are strong must be considerate.” Unfortunately, our world is full of supposedly strong people who use their strength to intimidate and malign the weak. This is not strength. We know we are strong by the measure to which we are considerate and can accommodate others; giving and serving others for their edification and encouragement.
“Lord, may I never use my strength to oppress anyone. Forgive me Lord where I have done this. May every grace given to me be used to build up and edify others around me. In Jesus name. Amen.”
