Romans 15:8-9 (NKJV)
“Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision…to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy…”
Jesus Christ came on earth to minister to two sets of people: to the Jews and to the Gentiles. For the Jews, Jesus came as a servant to confirm to them, the promises of God made to their fathers; promises repeated again and again – that a root of Jesse will reign and rule, and write the laws of God on their heart, and bring them total deliverance. They heard these prophecies read to them again and again, but when the reality of its fulfillment came, they missed it. Jesus came as the fulfillment of the heart of God’s prophecies to Israel.
For the Gentiles also, it was the fulfillment of several prophesies, steeped in the mercy of God. Because the Gentiles were not of the seed of Abraham, the extension of God’s promises to us were indeed a great mercy from on High, one which we did not deserve at all. The prophecy of Isaiah quoted in Romans 15:12 says, “There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope.” The overflow of God’s prophecy to Israel, is God’s blessings to the whole world. Jesus as God’s Son and Servant came to bring to reality, the eternal and ancient purposes of God – both to the Jews and to the Gentiles, collapsing both into one ransomed family of God. Halleluya.
“Thank You Jesus, the eternal One, Who with the Father both initiated the prophecy as well as fulfilled it by the Holy Spirit. All glory, praise and honor to Your name, and blessings to Your united and redeemed family – the true Israel of God. Amen.”
