1 Samuel 10:25 (NKJV)
“Then Samuel explained to the people the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.”
We are royalty. In Christ Jesus, we are a royal nation – purchased and sanctified by His blood. We belong to the greatest Royal Family that there is, there was, or ever will be. The knowledge of this royalty must sink deep into our subconscious and our personal identification.
Knowing that we belong to this glorious clan of heavenly beings, must impact the way we think, act, and react. But this behavior needs to be taught.
Samuel explained to the people “the behavior of royalty.” People don’t understand what heavenly royalty looks like, and we need to teach them through our lifestyles. The behavior of heavenly beings differs completely from earthly beings. We act in rhyme with heavenly directives and are unmoved by the world systems. We carry ourselves with heavenly decorum. We speak with heavenly authority. We dress in the modesty of heavenly royalty. We never respond to pressures like men of the world do. We repay wickedness with love and forgiveness.
As royalty, our eyes are focused on heaven’s agenda.
To belong to heaven’s royal family is a privilege to be cherished. It is also a responsibility to be carried. Every royal family has their code of conduct which has its limitations and privileges. As heaven’s royalty on earth, we need to accept these limitations and privileges. We are not commoners. People may think we are ordinary and despise us, but we know where we come from and to whom we belong.
In verse 27, some people despised Saul and brought him no presents as their new king, but “he held his peace.” That is part of the behavior of royalty. Royals cannot be found bantering carelessly with careless people. Royals hold their peace and are never pressured to respond to the foolishness of men. Royals carry the glory of God and do not trivialize that glory by condescending to acting in carnality.
Samuel not only explained the behavior of royalty, he wrote the details in a book and presented it before the Lord. These behaviors are specific actions and expectations, and they need to be written down and taught. People won’t understand royalty spontaneously without teaching. One of the duties of members of the royal family is to school other members what it means to be royal.
Royalty is a privilege, but it has its guiding principles. God’s Word gives clear guidelines on the behavior of royals. Jesus was a living example of heavenly royalty displayed in human form.
Don’t despise your calling into royalty. Carry yourself well. Acquaint yourself with the expectations of royalty. And enjoy the privileges of belonging to the clan.
