BEHAVE WISELY

August 23, 2024

1 Samuel 18:5, 15 (NKJV)
“So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants…Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him.”

As you grow in power and status, you will face increasing temptations to lose your sense of decorum and sensitivity. But you cannot afford to let this happen. How you behave when you have power reveals who you really are.

The more Saul gave David power and authority, the more David knew that he needed to behave wisely. And as he behaved wisely, the people accepted him, including Saul’s servants. This made Saul want to kill him.

Don’t celebrate your increase because you have also increased your enemies and pitfalls. Every physical increase demands a corresponding call to increased discernment and watchfulness. This is the key to maintaining your increase.

Unfortunately, many people jump into the deep tide of success and forget that the same tides that gave you success can swallow you up in a moment. Wisdom is of God. We need to grow in seeking heavenly wisdom as we prosper.

Verse 14 says that, “David behaved wisely in all his ways.” Note the emphasis—”ALL his ways.” Today’s devotional call is the call to always behave wisely, irrespective of the situation you find yourself. Always is the key word.

But how is that possible? NLT says that, “In everything he did, he had great success because the Lord was with him.” The only way to continually behave wisely as you enjoy great success, is by relying on God’s presence.

Dear pilgrim, God will increase you and I pray He does so in a great way. But don’t act foolishly by moving away from the presence of God. Danger lurks everywhere as you increase. Behave wisely by staying close to Him.

When Saul “saw that David behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him.” May people witness the wisdom in your life, and may they fear you the more. May your life be an enigma to those who seek your destruction. In Jesus name.
