1 Samuel 18:17 (NKJV)
“Then Saul said to David, ‘Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the Lord’s battles.’ For Saul thought, ‘Let my hand not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.’”
Not all javelins will be obvious and direct. Many will be more subtle, but just as dangerous. It is amazing the crafty ideas men will design in secret for our downfall. When direct efforts fail, Satan will employ more subtle means.
We may not know everything or see everything, but we need to constantly walk with the Lord in ways that naturally protect us. In our simplicity, people may want to use us or take us for granted, but the Lord has our back.
People have deep plots and schemes. Some of us are too ordinary and too trusting for this world’s system. People gather together in dark places to plan our downfall but they laugh with us in public. The heart of man is incredible.
Having failed with his physical javelin, Saul said to himself, “I will give her (his daughter) to him that she may be a snare to him and that the Philistines may be against him” (verse 21). Can you imagine the depth of this plot?
And the Bible says that he discretely and indirectly offered his daughter to David again and again. He sent his servants to David to secretly say, “The king has delight in you, and all his servants love you” (verse 22).
There are deep plots out there. Secret javelins. Not everyone smiling at you and communicating with you is for you. Meetings are going on in your name and for your downfall. They are scheming and designing against you.
But like David, we don’t need to worry too much about that or become overly suspicious about people around us. David’s anthem had always been, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” He was totally dependent on the goodness of His Shepherd.
So don’t let the deep plots scare you or make you paranoid. Being aware that they are there is good, but keep your eyes on your Shepherd. Entrust your life to him daily, and wait for his deliverance. He will come through for you. Amen.
