YOUR INSIDER (2)

September 13, 2024

1 Samuel 19:11
“Saul also sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, ‘If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.’”

We continue the devotion on Insiders. In our other devotion on this topic, we concluded that Insiders are God’s gift to the pilgrim. Insiders see things we don’t, hear things we don’t, and can speak for us.

In addition to these, Insiders are wise counselors. Because they have access to insights and info that we don’t, they can point us in directions that we may never have considered. Insiders are helpers from God to keep us alive.

Listen to wise counsel, and surround yourself with wise counselors. Your survival may just depend on the kinds of people you surround yourself with. If you keep people who cannot tell you the truth, you are in grave danger.

Michal was an Insider. Like Jonathan, she knew the danger David was in and was committed to doing something about it. Rather than speak to her father, she gave life-saving counsel to her husband.

And Insiders don’t just give counsel and stand back. Insiders get involved in helping you out of a difficult situation as well. Michal gave advice but also “let David down through a window” (verse 12). Advise also needs action.

When people give you life-saving counsel, don’t look at the pedigree of the counselor. Listen to the voice of the Spirit. If the counsel is from God, act irrespective of how you feel. Their advice may seem strange but obey.

One reason we need Insiders is that their words have the power to save. They are God’s gift to us. To go far in life, you need great counselors who are committed to your well-being. Look for such people and listen to them.

But don’t just be a receiver. Be an Insider for others as well. Be Michal to someone. Give wise advice and be willing to help another pilgrim escape from the evil planned against them. That’s the way to uphold each other.
