1 Samuel 19:20 (NKJV)
“Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.”

Prayer is good but what are we praying about? One thing we must never stop praying for is the infilling of the Holy Spirit that produces tangible power. Real power manifests and is tangible.

As pilgrims, we often emphasize character over spiritual gifts and this is correct. We pursue after Christ, not His gifts. That’s our trademark. But pursuing Christ is what produces this power.

It’s wrong to think we simply need to live holy and not manifest God’s power. In this dark and evil world, the real daily contest is a power contest. Failure to see this is spiritual blindness.

Everywhere, the assault is real. Evil forces are plaguing our world. Darkness often openly showcases itself. Christians are forced to hide because we lack power. And this is wrong.

We need to pursue Christ and the raw power that comes with knowing Him. Paul cried for this, saying, “that I might know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Phil 3:10). Knowing Him produces power.

Samuel was a man of power. He was not just talk. When Saul sent different battalions to take David, each contingent fell under the power of God and started prophesying, simply because they approached Samuel’s presence. Wow!

When Saul went himself, “the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth” (verse 23). God’s Spirit is no respecter of persons. He can humble anyone He chooses to.

David could kill Goliath but he did not have this kind of power. Many of us may have different abilities and skills but we need to press in for the power of God’s Spirit. It is crucial to recognize this need and desire it.

Unfortunately, too many people outsource this to others when we can experience it for ourselves. Join me today in seeking earnestly, the fresh visitation and encounter of the Holy Spirit that can produce raw heavenly power in us.
