DECLARATIONS #5: Divine Speed

January 8, 2025

1 Samuel 23:26
“Then Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. So David made haste to get away from Saul, for Saul and his men were encircling David and his men to take them.”

You are constantly being encircled, and only the Lord sees the ways in which this is happening. Thankfully, He who sees also leads us in the pathways of victory and does not leave us alone to ourselves.

The encirclement is meant to trap you and limit you. The encirclement is intended to hold you down and snuff you out. The encirclement is well-designed and perfectly executed. But there is one thing they forgot: your speed with God.

As we walk with the Lord, we need speed to keep in step with Him. The Lord is always on the move, and we need to be on the move with Him, but with speed. The Bible says that “David made haste.” He moved quickly.

Jesus, our Lord, was always on the move. He moved as His Father moved. He was very discerning and mobile. He knew He was constantly being encircled, and the only way to outsmart the enemy was to be mobile and fast.

We need to operate like this. In our last devotion, we talked about Divine Resourcefulness. This is part of that resourcefulness, but resourcefulness done with speed and timing. David was resourceful and fast.

Doing what you need to do but in a sluggish way won’t work. Timing is key to entering into God’s plan and purpose. Timing is key to extracting yourself from encircling forces. Doing the needful must be done in time; otherwise, it’s useless.

As you enter this new season, ask the Lord for the grace to move fast. Move with determination. Move with a spring in your steps. Whatever you need to be doing, do it with energy and inner pressure.

The days are evil, but the Lord is with us. Let’s keep our eyes on Him and move with Him. Today’s devotion is all about learning to move quickly. Drop all those weights that won’t help your speed. This year, we must be fast in doing the needful. Amen.
