NEVER WALK ALONE

March 21, 2025

1 Samuel 26:5 (NKJV)
“So David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Now Saul lay within the camp, with the people encamped all around him.”

It’s essential that we don’t walk this life alone but that we have company with us. Being surrounded by people is critical, but it is more important to be surrounded by trustworthy and reliable people.

No matter how strong or successful we are, we need people by our side. No matter how much grace we carry, we need people around us. No matter the life status we have achieved, we need people by our side. Never walk alone.

It’s God’s will that each of us are surrounded by people who are awake when we are sleeping. Life is full of risk and danger, and if you are walking the narrow path of the pilgrim life, you need this support more than others.

Walking alone is a recipe for disaster. Walking alone exposes you to pitfalls that can be avoided. Walking alone means nobody is watching your back. While we know that God has angels all around us, we also need physical beings to watch with us.

Saul was king and was in a position of great strength, but he knew he dared not sleep alone. In this passage, we see that he lay “within the camp, with the people encamped all around him.” This is how to secure yourself. Have people encamped around you.

However, the people around us must be people who are awake and alert. In this case, Abner, the commander of Saul’s army, and all the people who were supposed to watch over Saul, were all asleep. That was a tragedy.

Surround yourself with people who are awake. Surround yourself with spiritually alert people. Surround yourself with people who are watchmen. Surround yourself with people who are committed to your safety.

Don’t walk alone if you want to go far and not fall by the wayside. Walk with people who love you, who are committed to you, and who are willing to watch over you. We strongly exhort you to stop today and find your faithful watchmen.
