1 Samuel 30:26 (NKJV)
“Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, ‘Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the LORD’”
Whatever we have today is a gift from the Lord. It is the Lord who makes us prosper, and every progress we make in any field of endeavor is a product of God’s grace. Knowing this as fact should make us indebted, humble, and thankful. We have because we received from our Lord.
In the same vein, many do not have what we have, not because we are more intelligent than they are, but simply because God did not give them directly. But the fact that God did not give them directly does not mean God loves them less. Maybe He wants to love them through us.
When God gives to one part of the body, He expects it to go around. The beauty of the body is that whatever affects one affects all. So, if the mouth eats, the toe feels the effect of the meal. The unification of the body is not just in physique; it’s in the chemistry. It’s wired together.
So should the Body of Christ be. When one part receives, all that are wired together should likewise receive. Body ministry means that it should be impossible for one part of the Church to be rejoicing while another is mourning. We rejoice and we mourn together.
When David received resources from the war with the Amalekites, he immediately thought of his friends. The Bible mentions about fourteen locations he sent these gifts to — to his friends, “to all the places where David himself and his men were accustomed to roam.” (v31)
What may have been seen as a waste of resources by some was actually a very smart move. By sharing his resources with his friends, David was not only showing appreciation, but he was also building loyalty. These gifts reinforced their friendships and ensured they stood with him.
Shortsighted individuals often prioritize their own interests and rarely share their resources with others; then, they are surprised when people don’t also make sacrifices for them when they need help. A generous person tends to have many friends, and people respect them more.
So, let’s note the wisdom in sharing. God gives us for us to share with others. The simple act of sharing will bring you blessings beyond your understanding. Don’t be miserly. When God blesses you, share the love with others.
