1 Kings 1:1
“Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm.”
Age. One of the things we fear the most. As age sets in, some things will naturally begin to give way, and this terrifies most people. People desire and dream to always remain young and vibrant all the days of their lives, but this cannot be. Aging will happen.
As age sets in, we need to come to terms with its realities. We need to adjust our lives to the new seasons. Physical age is not the only thing that has implications on our lives. Emotional and spiritual aging also carries its own baggage. Are we ready for it?
Sadly, most people are not ready for the changes that come with age. Age brings at least two changes. First is the lack of agility. With age, we become more frail and less vibrant than in our youthful days. Secondly, age often comes with illnesses.
Before aging sets in, let’s commit to living impactfully. Let’s maximize our youthful days. Let’s serve our generation with extreme vigor and passion. Let’s not join the band of ignobles who waste their youthfulness chasing vanity. Pursue holy convictions.
And be observant. Life moves in seasons, and aging happens slowly. Before aging fully sets in, throw yourself into the realities of each season, and give it your best. Impactful living does not dwell on anticipating future seasons. It thrives on the present.
When the great king David entered his season of aging, he was incapacitated. He could not generate warmth by himself. The giant slayer lay in bed, unable to help himself, feeling cold and vulnerable. But thankfully, he had given his youth everything he had.
Live well in your youthful days, as aging will inevitably bring its limitations. Slay your Goliaths. Fight your battles. Give your world your best. Don’t live for yourself but for Him who created you. And if you are still alive, then your story is not yet over.
