1 Kings 1:2
“Therefore his servants said to him, ‘Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm.’”
In the previous devotion, we mentioned how aging is inevitable and how with aging comes several types of limitations, including lack of vibrancy and coldness. We saw how the great king David could not generate warmth when he became old.
In today’s devotion, we see how David’s servants wanted to help solve their master’s problem by providing a well-thought-out solution to make him warm. But alas, even this great idea failed. Their master still remained as cold as ever.
And here is the big lesson. While human wisdom has a place, it cannot create inner fire. Yes, external strategies have their place, but unless we hear God and walk in His ways, all the wisdom of friends and servants will never birth inner revival.
Impactful living needs inner flames. Impactful living needs inner revival. If we lack the fire of the Holy Spirit within us, we cannot touch our generation. Spiritual coldness is the greatest enemy of living an impactful life. And we must fight this by all means.
But the fire must come from above. We cannot generate it ourselves. We cannot create it by our strategies. We cannot by ourselves think of a way to make revival flames burn within us. All the best efforts of our best friends cannot break inner coldness.
Let’s turn to God. On a daily basis, let’s watch our temperature gauge. Let’s monitor our inner lives with great interest. Let’s ask the Lord to evaluate where we are with Him. Let’s be observant of anything that could create spiritual coldness in us.
Impactful Living requires holy flames from above, and these flames cannot be manufactured by human wisdom. Our best efforts are not good enough. Only God can reverse the effects of aging, and our best bet should always be to lean on Him for this.
