KNOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT

August 24, 2025

1 Kings 1:11
“So Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, ‘Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?’”

So much is happening, and things are changing very quickly. All around us are activities that are shaping reality and shifting the dynamics of things. What we thought was a fixed point yesterday may have moved today. Loyalties are also shifting.

Because we live in this world, we must be aware of what’s happening around us. We must also understand that, whether we like it or not, the changing realities around us will impact us either positively or negatively.

For this reason, we need to keep our ears to the ground. Knowledge is power. Spirituality does not mean ignorance. To bury your head in the sand of “religious spirituality” is not an okay strategy in these last days.

Impactful people know their environment and respond to the realities around them. Impactful people are knowledgeable people and stay abreast with developments in the world. Impactful people make decisions based on current realities.

Although David had sworn to her that her son Solomon would become king in his place, Bathsheba was totally unaware that Adonijah had proclaimed himself king. David himself was totally ignorant of this reality. But how could they not have known?

What were they doing that they missed all the activities leading up to Adonijah’s coronation? What important business had taken up all their attention that they did not hear the biggest news in the kingdom?

We must not become so tunnel-minded that we lose sight of the big picture. We must not be so focused on our personal priorities that we fail to see and hear the movements happening in our community.

Again, I repeat, impactful people are knowledgeable people, but this knowledge must come from the grassroots. There is knowledge that is distant and aloof and separate from the natural flow of things around. We need to hear things from the ground level.

Do you want to be impactful? Have your eyes to the ground. Know what people are saying and doing around you. Make your decisions based on real-life and current information from your surroundings. Know your environment.
