STAND BY YOUR DECISIONS

September 19, 2025

1 Kings 1:30 (NKJV)
“just as I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ so I certainly will do this day.”

Stand by your decisions. One of the signs of true integrity is your ability to stand by and defend what you said or did. Don’t be like those who are constantly changing their minds based on the way the wind blows.

It takes strength to stand by your decisions, especially when they are very unpopular. We are not encouraging dictatorships or tyranny. We encourage men and women of conviction to stand by their declared statements and their pronounced beliefs.

Don’t be a flip-flop. Don’t be like those people who easily change their minds once opposition arises. Of course, you can change your mind if you are given a credible reason to do so. But don’t change your mind simply because of opposition.

Those who make an impact are people who are willing to rock the boat if needed, to make their convictions heard. If they know they are in the right, they are ready to fight for and enforce their opinion as much as is possible and reasonable.

Sometimes, it might not be feasible to enforce your opinion and convictions. In such a case, it is okay to accept the reality of the situation. Accept defeat when you are in a situation where you don’t have the authority to enforce your desire.

But David’s case was different. He had made a vow that Solomon would be the heir to the throne. But someone else was already crowning himself as king. Adonijah had gained the popular vote while Solomon was a nobody.

Despite the seemingly untenable reality, David chose to press in to enforce his will. He knew it would stir the boat. He knew it would cause some confusion in his kingdom. But he was a man of his word, and he had the authority to enforce it.

Be a man of your word. If you have the authority, execute your promises and decisions. Let people know that they can trust you based on your promises. If you are a man of your word, people will gravitate towards you and be willing to take risks on your behalf.

Impactful people are those who back up their words. They stand by their decisions. When they make a promise, they fulfill it. They do not use their words cheaply. They pursue their promises to fulfil them. Like David with Bathsheba, stand by your words.
