GENERATIONAL ANOINTING

March 16, 2026

1 Kings 5:1 (NKJV)
“Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always loved David.”

In the last devotion, we talked about volume, largeness, and capacity. We looked at how God gives His grace in large portions, especially to those who need it, who ask for it, and who have faith for it. Building on that, we are looking at how God dispenses this.

God is the God of generational anointing. For every generation, He gives anointing to chosen men in that generation who will serve their generation. And this anointing cannot be transferred. Only God chooses and dispenses His anointing.

Sometimes people entrust responsibility to their successors, but when those successors lack the anointing for the assignment, they falter and fail. Generational transition is a most delicate process, and unfortunately, they don’t always succeed.

Failure in generational transition is the main reason why the Church of God has died out or diminished in strength in several nations. One generation may have served their God with great vigor and strength, while the next generation languishes in spiritual squalor.

This ought not to be. When the days of our fathers are over, the anointing should be transferred to the next generation. The only way the Church of God will survive and thrive in the last days is by having anointed successors in each generation.

When Solomon took over from his father David, people far and near heard of him because the anointing of God was upon him. 1 Kings 4:31b says that, “his fame was in all the surrounding nations.” Even King Hiram heard all the way in Tyre.

Why did people hear of Solomon? The anointing. He was not only anointed by men, but he was also anointed by God. God had anointed David for his generation, and because of that anointing, David succeeded in his generation. God did the same with Solomon.

And God is doing the same today. The fathers are passing away, but God is raising new generations. Are you a David or are you a Solomon? If you are a David, pray earnestly that God will raise your Solomons. Are you Solomon? Pray for fresh anointing.

The Bible says that the glory of the latter house shall be greater than the former house. The Bible talks about the early rains and the later rains. God is the God who gives the rains of His Spirit to each generation. The Church needs the Holy Spirit more than ever.

Here is my personal prayer and conviction. By the grace of God, the Church of God will not suffer because of my lack of spiritual capacity. For this reason, I am seeking God’s anointing with great earnestness and passion. Are you praying for the same thing?
