Genesis 26:1-2 (NKJV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham\u2026Then the Lord appeared to him and said: \u2018Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Famine is a cyclical event that comes and goes with seasons of life. There will be famine. That is an inevitable fact. The real issue is: \u201cwhat do we do in times of famine?\u201d When we are drained, dried and demoralized, that\u2019s when we must be careful about distractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Egypt is a distraction. Egypt offers a sense of relief from the famine, but it\u2019s a relief that\u2019s deadly and dangerous. It defiles and deforms. Besides the first famine, there was another famine in the land; but the Lord was very emphatic about not going down to Egypt. Despite the feelings of unease and discomfort, may we remain in the place God has placed us. May we hold on to the principles God has taught us and may we reject the soothing enticements of Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cO Lord, I feel stranded many times. I felt so dry and empty and demoralized that I desperately need some quick comfort. O God, keep my heart from Egypt.
