Motivation is everything.

Jesus knew the huge price He needed to pay for the redemption of the world but at Gethsemane, He had a chance to change His mind yet He didn’t. Why?

Because He saw the fruit that would result from agonizing death on the cross. He saw the reward.

When the reward is clear, it helps motivation. People are more likely to do something when they can see the positive outcome from it.

When the outcome is not clear, or negative, motivation is more likely to wane.

In all we do, let’s keep our eyes on the final long-term outcome rather than only looking for short-term results.

People who live for only short-term benefits are very myopic. They don’t see the big picture, and they don’t see far enough.

People of depth, vision, and character, however, see beyond the immediate and are willing to wait. They stay motivated because they know that investments today are not a loss.

Anticipation of reward helps people stay focused and faithful.

David was willing to go and fight Goliath but he also wanted to know what the king would do for him if he killed Goliath.

He was angry that Goliath was defying the Lord’s name but he sought for another motivation. He kept asking until his question got to the king.

We need to have a clear understanding of the benefits that connect with our activities.

Galatians 6v9-10 says if we don’t lose heart and continue in doing good, we will reap a reward; and therefore encourages us to continue doing good.

The only way we will keep standing for righteousness, serving our generation faithfully, and walking the pilgrim journey is if we keep our eyes on the glory that will be revealed to us.

The only way our motivation won’t break is if we remember what’s ahead.

1 Samuel 17:26 (NKJV)“Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, ‘What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine…For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?’” Why we do what we do is more important than doing what we do.
