\u201cThen answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, \u2018I saw the son of Jesse going to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the things we cannot run away from is betrayal. People you have loved and invested in will betray you in this life. People you have served will betray you. People you least expected to do so, will betray you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inevitable is the pain you will feel from people you thought should be on your side. Emotional pain is part of the inevitable. If we prepare for it, we will survive it. If we don\u2019t, we will be crushed by it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What makes betrayal so painful is when it comes from fellow believers you have trusted. The greatest pain comes from the closest associates \u2013 from family members, from church members, from loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inevitable means that we may not be able to escape it, but trust God to go through it and bear it. Where we can escape, let\u2019s certainly do so, but where we cannot, let\u2019s ask for grace to go through the crushing valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Doeg had gone to the Tabernacle to fulfill a spiritual vow. He came for a spiritual event and witnessed David\u2019s interaction with Ahimelech, the priest. Ahimelech must have served him spiritually. Yet he betrayed the priest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People will repay you evil for good. People will not respect all your love and sacrifice for them. People will use you as firewood to cook their meals. People are intrinsically selfish and self-serving and don\u2019t care about hurting others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But we are different. When we face the inevitable, we will not repay evil for evil. We love those who hate us and serve those who despise us. We will not become evil because evil people surround us. We are pilgrims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Are you hurting from betrayal? Please take comfort in knowing that we all go through this. Have you suffered loss from betrayal? Your Lord suffered greatly from this, too. You are in good company. Do you want vengeance? Please have peace and leave that to the Lord. Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
