1 Samuel 30:13 (NKJV)
\u201cThen David said to him, \u2018To whom do you belong, and where are you from?\u2019 And he said, \u2018I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are many questions we need to answer about life and ourselves, but two questions override all others. As pilgrims, we must be constantly aware of these two questions because the world will demand answers from us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first question is: \u201cTo whom do you belong?\u201d Everybody belongs to someone. We sometimes think there are independent people on earth, but there are no independents. We all belong to someone, and that someone has the final say in what we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For this reason, we need to be clear about who we belong to. From that understanding, we will be able to fashion out every other trajectory in life. All mankind are slaves. Some know it, and some don\u2019t. We know who we are slaves to, and we honor our Lord through obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second question is, \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d This question is meant to help us understand our life journey. Only those who take time to regularly assess where they are coming from can have a sense of direction to where they are supposed to be or are supposed to be going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Too many people are fighting the battles of today without investing time in reviewing their life\u2019s journey. Our \u201ctoday\u201d is a product of our past, and the better we interpret our past, the more likely we are to understand our present and possible future. Invest in reviewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As pilgrims, let\u2019s be like that Egyptian. When David asked him these two key questions, he didn\u2019t hesitate to give him answers. He knew exactly who he was and where he was coming from. In fact, he went ahead and gave more information about his present status and the reasons for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWho are you? Who do you belong to? Who do you serve? Whose voice dictates your actions? What has your journey been like? What things have you been involved in? How did you get to where you are today? Why are you where you are? Where are you headed?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life is full of questions. Let\u2019s embrace them and answer them truthfully. Our answers may not always be beautiful, but may they be genuine and honest. Like the Egyptian, if we speak truth, we will meet the helpers God has ordained to help us into our destiny, and prepared future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
