THE MOST COMFORTING VERSE

Mar 7, 2022

Matthew 28:20

“…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

This is one of the most comforting verses of Scriptures. It is so encouraging to know that we are not alone in this walk. The pilgrim life is tough; it is a life of hills and valleys, of storms and betrayal, of warfare and persistence in doing good. But the good and cheerful news is that God has promised to be with us, even to the end of the age. It means that irrespective of what we are going through, God is faithfully walking with us through every situation and circumstance. This is powerful and wonderful to the traveling pilgrim.

However, this promise was not just given to anybody. In fact, it was not given to all the followers of Jesus. It was specifically given to the disciples, and it was connected to their ministries of disciple-making among all nations. The promise of Jesus was not for idle Christians sitting in churches praising God. This promise is given to active workers, who are busy executing the mandate of God to make disciples of all nations. Only those laborers busy in the harvest field can claim this promise. Jesus is with His disciples in the fields. Jesus is not with the followers who are not involved in disciple-making. It is a hard truth, but that is the context of this beautiful promise.

“Lord Jesus, I will stay busy with the task ahead of me. I will stay busy making disciples of others. I know that as I so do, Your presence will be ever close to me, and that is my greatest comfort and desire. Amen.”
