MERCY OVER JUDGEMENT

Psalms 6:1-2 (NKJV)

‘O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak…’

To acknowledge your weakness is your strength. Today’s Christian is taught never to confess nor acknowledge weakness. We are told to constantly say, ‘I am strong, I am well, I am happy’. While this can be understood in terms of prophetic prayer and pronouncement, it can become delusional when it becomes a negation of a reality.

To accept your weakness only makes you more dependent on the God who is strength and because we are weak, we sometimes do things that attract the wrath of God. For this reason, we need to always ask that God covers us with His mercy and not deal with our weaknesses in His wrath. Mercy is what we plead for in Christ. We deserve God’s rebuke but we plead that the rebuke does not come in His anger or ‘hot displeasure’.

‘Yes Lord. Mercy is what we plead for, in Christ. When we fall or fail because of our humanity, we plead mercy, knowing that in Jesus- mercy triumphs over judgment. Although we don’t take our being in Jesus as a license to sin, yet when we do sin, we request the mercy you provided in Jesus to cover us. Thank you for bearing with our weaknesses. And thank you for not rebuking me in your anger or hot displeasure. Always look at me through Jesus and have mercy on me, Lord. This I plead, in Jesus name.’
