The Deception

Galatians 3:2-3 (NKJV)

‘This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?’

There is a constant fight between the flesh and the spirit. But truth must be told. All the spiritual blessings I have received and continue to receive did not come by the dexterous practice of some formal legalistic discipline. All the blessings I have received & continue to enjoy (deliverance from sin, salvation, consecration, divine elevation, call to ministry, wholesomeness, protection etc), were not the product of my hard work or my personal effort at doing something. All the spiritual blessings I have ever received came to me because I believed in Jesus.

The flesh is our greatest enemy and he wants to make us believe that we can survive and thrive if we lived according to his ways. But this is the height of deception. We have received life through faith in Christ and the only way we can continue to experience spiritual life is through faith in Christ. We must flee the attempt to perfect by the flesh what was started by the spirit, because it cannot work and doesn’t work that way. We started by faith in Christ; let’s not mature to think we can now perfect faith by working out systems in the flesh that can provide us the blessings that we initially received only by faith.

‘It’s a deception that will leave me spiritually bankrupt and I know that Lord. I will not let my heart be deceived to thinking that I can do something to make me more perfect, aside from faith in Christ. Whenever this deception creeps into my spirit Lord, O! may your Holy Spirit alert me to this wicked intrusion, so that I may purge it from my thinking and my heart. In Jesus name.’
