Psalms 5:12 (NKJV)
‘For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.’
This is a befitting benediction and blessing. It states two unquestionable facts: the Lord blesses the righteous and surrounds him as with a shield. What more can the righteous want? He is assured of the continual blessings of the Most High and he is assured that the presence of the Most High will surround him as a shield of protection.
If for no other reason, this is enough reason to want to live in righteousness. Jesus is our righteousness and the indwelling Holy Spirit guarantees that these two realities are our daily portion. So why should I fear? Why should I shake? Why should I let the humanity of mankind get the best of me? I am blessed. The Most High secures me. What more can I want?
Do you need anything beyond this double assurance from God Himself?
‘Thank you, Lord, for your blessing and your presence around me. This is more than enough for living in this world. Help me to always remember these basic promises and assurances from your Word, so that I may never have to tremble when the winds of adversity begin to blow their stormy winds. I am blessed. I am surrounded. I am satisfied. Amen.’
