ATTITUDE THAT PRESERVES

Psalms 16:1-2 (NKJV)

‘Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”’

On this journey, we need God’s help in every way and our very survival is totally dependent on Him. There is no other way to make it through but to trust Him and Him alone. But this trust requires a particular attitude and this we see in David’s prayer: ‘My goodness is nothing apart from You.’ The man who remotely knows himself will soon discover that there is nothing good in Man, outside of God.

And this is the attitude that attracts God. Anything that pushes Man into the forefront and takes credit for the work of God is of evil origin and will take Man away from God. The heart that puts God in the center and gives Him all the glory, will surely experience the blessed assurance of God’s presence. Confess, accept and acknowledge that all good comes from God and no good can be found in you except what God puts there. That’s the key to preservation.

Or have you found goodness in yourself?

‘Preserve me O Lord. Preserve me. Preserve me from the evil outside but most importantly, preserve me from personal boastings. Help me see and confess that you are all of my goodness and there is no goodness in me outside of You. Let this fact sink in so deep that it’s a part of the natural fabric of my consciousness. This I cry to you O Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.’
