CHOOSE YE THIS DAY

Psalms 17:14-15 (NKJV)

‘…men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.’

Choose ye this day what is the portion of your desire. There are two lots. One lot is the lot of the men of this world who are filled with the hidden treasures of this world (ultimately given by God) and they have many children and leave their possessions for the next generation. But the second lot is the lot of those who desire to see the face of the Most High and when they shall awake from the sleep of death, they awake in the likeness of God. If you had to make a choice of one lot, which portion would you choose?

I choose the second because the second has eternal significance. The second also gives me the opportunity to experience treasures and pleasures that will never erode or be taken away. And incidentally, I can have the second and still have access to the first. Those who live for the first portion make the first portion their lot and therein lay the deceit. I don’t want that as my lot. It may be added to my portion but it must never be my lot. My lot is to see the face of my God all the days of my life and awake to His full likeness on the day of resurrection.

‘Lord, I will not degrade myself to seek the lot of the things that are transient, when I can have access to what is eternal. In this life, your face is my greatest desire and this is the portion I want for myself, for in this will I find safety in this life and on the day of resurrection. And if you choose to give me the treasures of this world, I will never make it my portion, my lot or my inheritance- but simply tools for the use of the good of Man in this world and the expansion of your Kingdom. Lord, make me satisfied with your face and with the simple things of life. Amen.’
