ACCORDING TO KIND

Genesis 1:24-25 (NKJV)

‘Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”…And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.’

While God expected His creation to multiply, He established a rule of reproduction and that was simply that each had to reproduce according to its kind. In the mind of God, if all these animals and plants started reproducing and filling the earth according to its kind that would be marvelous. In fact, God saw it was good and thought it was a great idea.

God recognizes that we are all different and we will reproduce differently. We cannot produce outside of our kind. We may have slightly different personalities or different body sizes and sizes of appetites and so forth, and yet we can be of the same kind. The ‘kind’ here refers to the intricate nature we bear. If we bear the nature of the heavenly, then we will naturally reproduce according to the heavenly blueprint. If we bear the nature of the earthy, we will reproduce according to the earthy. No, all reproduction is therefore not always a good reproduction, because the ‘kind’ being reproduced is more important than the activity of the reproduction.

The critical question, therefore, is: ‘What kind of person are you in the deepest sense of the word and what kind are you reproducing, if you are reproducing at all?’

‘Lord, may my entire nature be wholly regenerated in Christ and hidden in Him, so that the only thing that I can reproduce will be the very life of Christ in me. Lord, deliver me from any earthy framework that could entice me away from the nature of God and set me on the wrong path of earthly reproduction. Amen.’
