Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)

‘Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”’

Man was made in the image of God and because Man bore the image and likeness of the Most High, he had the natural mandate to have rulership over all that God had made. In essence, when Man ruled the creation, it was actually God ruling through Him. This was God’s perfect plan and it worked very well…for a season.

Noteworthy, however, is that Man was not made to have dominion over Man. Man was made to have dominion over the fish and the birds and the cattle and other created things, but God’s plan was never for Man to rule Man. God was meant to rule over Man and God in Man was God’s rulership of Man. So while it has become normal for there to be human rulers over Mankind, it must only be understood that this was not the original plan and therefore even when leadership or rulership is thrust upon you, it must be handled with great caution and fear, knowing that your only claim to correctness is to so rule in the fear of God and by the leadership of God, since God alone had the mandate to rule over Man.

‘As a leader Lord, I tremble at this discovery today. To lead my family and to lead the people around me, is actually the work of God and if I am given this stewardship for a season, then Lord, I pray I can do it with utter dexterity and humility and truthfulness, never seeking personal gain from it or the hurt of the people I lead, but only seeking to promote God’s will and counsel for the people I have been called to lead. This I ask in Jesus name. Amen.’
