Genesis 2:2 (NKJV)
‘And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.’
There’s a time to rest from work as God did on the seventh day. But note that God rested when He had finished ALL HIS WORK. Yes, it’s good to rest but what’s the point of resting when your work is still left undone? So the focus should not be on resting but finishing your work… Then you can rest.
We live in a generation where we want to enjoy the pleasures of rest and refreshing but are not willing to exert ourselves to the fullest. God did not rest without fulfilling His work. Do we know what our work for the day is? Are we applying ourselves fully into it? If yes, then we deserve to enter into rest because rest was meant for such. But there is no rest for the lazy and slothful who lounge around and do not engage themselves dutifully and intensely. There’s a day of work and the day of work precedes the day of rest. Don’t think rest until you have properly worked!
‘O Lord, deliver me from the wrong desires of cheap rest, a rest devoid of labor. Teach me to labor and fully engage in my work, that I may enjoy the day of my rest. Amen.’
