Genesis 2:3 (NKJV)
‘Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.’
The day of rest is a sanctified day and it must be observed as such, a day when we find renewal and break away from the routine of work. Work is a burden. Work is toil. There is a need to make space for a sanctified day away from the toil of labor.
For workaholics like myself, rest is sometimes seen as a waste of time. Because the work is never ‘totally completed’, I feel I need to keep pushing and pressing on. But we need to sanctify the day of rest (sanctify meaning, separate it aside as a special day). Is that what we do? Do you have a sanctified day of rest? Do you let your spirit, soul, and body get away from the toils of life and enter the rest of God? Can you commit to rest today and give yourself a scheduled cycle of rest? After all, if God chose to rest on the seventh day, it was not because He was tired. Don’t wait till you break down and are forced to rest. Plan it into your busy life schedule. You’ll live longer, healthier and stay more mentally and spiritually focused.
‘Lord, teach me what it means to rest. I confess that I have not scheduled it in and I have not sanctified time to rest. Forgive me and help me make rest a priority, even as I make work a priority. Amen.’
